Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Fest

April 28 through 30, Santa Maria Valley

Did you know…

Most of Santa Maria's strawberry fields are replanted every year to produce a better quality fruit and higher yields?

There are approximately 200 seeds in the average strawberry?

SANTA MARIA VALLEY—Throughout spring and summer in Santa Maria (just about 90 minutes north of Santa Barbara) everything smells a whole lot like strawberries. Home to some of the largest production strawberry farms in the region (and the third-largest producer in the state), the air fills with the sweet fragrance of blossoming berries which come into perfect ripeness just about now. The peak season runs from April through June, though berries will continue being grown through fall.

To celebrate the area's favorite crop, locals put on a party in the berry's honor the last weekend in April (this year, April 28 through 30, 2006), with music, food, carnival rides, varietal tasting, cooking demonstrations, educational displays Friday through Sunday.

If you go: Santa Maria Fairpark, 937 S. Thornburg, Santa Maria, CA
Fee: $3.00 - $5.00; children 5 and under free Time: 10 am to 9pm. Phone Number: 805.925.8824.
